KB Update

Thank you to KB families for being patient as I update the blog.  It sure was a busy two weeks and things feel like they have slowed down (at least for a while!).  I am posting below about some of the special things we have done in the past couple of weeks.  From karate to scientists to our park walk - we have been having lots of fun, having rich conversations and been engaged in lots of activities.

Here is a short clip of us learning some karate movement with the Elora Gorge Karate School.

The Scientists in the Classroom program took place in KB.  The topic was Backyard Bugs and we explored camouflage, parts of an insect, classifying insects, learning about special features of insects, and exploring insects in hands-on ways.

Our documentation board about our investigations at the park has been growing.  It makes our learning visible to anyone in the school, allows children to make connections and retell their experiences, and helps myself and any volunteers to assist in planning next steps.  I was so pleased that the students were excited to take a peek.

A clear interest from our park visits was the concept of sinking and floating.  The children love throwing natural materials into the river and discussing their observations. We extended our learning by comparing items and recording their buoyancy.  The children made many connections to our park visits and the river.

Here are some photos from our most recent park visit.  We noticed many things almost in bloom, paid closer attention to things in the water, investigated mud, and spent a great deal of time hunting for insects and collecting them in our bug houses from the Wonder Wagon.  Of course, the logical next step was to create a castle for the woodbugs we found when we got back to school!!!  We also did some research about what insects and living things need to ensure we were providing adequate habitats in our classroom.
